Christmas Eve Box Kit

Growing up in England, you opened a Christmas Eve box every year, and now in Ohio your children's friends have never heard of one. You want this year's box to look like it has always belonged to your family, with its own label on the lid and a plan for the evening.

A 12-page printable kit for the family that gives the children a Christmas Eve box: one box of small things to open on the evening before Christmas, which in 2026 is Thursday, December 24.

The kit does not tell you what to put in the box. It gives you the paper to make it yours. Inside: a full-size lid label, three lid bands and six small labels, in different styles, to cut out and stick on any box with a lid; twelve gift tags in three looks; a "what goes in" checklist with columns for three children (pyjamas, a book, something to watch, a hot drink, a game, a treat, something to make, a note, and two blank rows); a plan for the evening with a time and a note for each step; a night-before interview of eight questions to repeat every year; a page to give to relatives who have not met the custom, which describes it as a family custom and leaves blanks for what is in your box and how they can join in; a box log with nine rows to record the years; and a week-before list counting back from Sunday, December 20.

Where the pages say who does a step, they say it plainly: a grown-up cuts out the labels and tags, an adult makes the hot drinks. The kit names no films, books or brands, so you choose your own. Prints on US Letter or A4 at 100 percent; the lid label is 6.4 inches square. Spelling is British (pyjamas, favourite).
