Fill in the squares the numbers call for and a seaside picture comes up out of the grid, such as a sailboat, an anchor, a crab, a starfish and an octopus. Every picture was made one square at a time for this book, and they run from bold, simple shapes for an easy start to a handful of tricky ones worth a slow afternoon on the porch.

Set large and clear: clue numbers are 18 point on every level, and each square is 0.37 to 0.61 inches wide.

- Easy: All of these give way to the three ways on page 3: overlap, finished lines and edges. None is over 14 squares wide or tall.
- Medium: 2 of these 12 are bigger grids, over 14 squares wide or tall, that the three ways still finish. The other 10 ask you to think through each spot a block could sit in and fill what they all include. No trial step.
- Hard: One of these 12 needs a trial step (page 3). On the other 11 the three ways run dry after fewer than 70% of the squares; thinking through each spot a block could sit in brings them home.

The 36 pictures belong to this book alone; you will not find them in any other book of ours.
